It has been a great experience taking part in Action: Piyaju-Beguni 2011 for the first time this year. In fact the entire team was working for the first time in any Action of CommunityAction. Also this was the first time Action: Piyaju-Beguni took place in Gazipur. All these firsts made the anticipation level really high and got us all eager to do a great job. The new Actioneers worked very hard for three days in making all the necessary arrangements which ultimately resulted in a successful event.
We had a meeting to start off the preparations of the Action. After receiving a positive response from friends, we decided on giving our best efforts and performing it in the best possible way. We started collecting funds from the very next day, mainly from our family and friends. But anyone willing to participate in or donate to this cause was welcomed. 150 iftaar packets were arranged with the fund collected and each packet included: 1Piyaju, 1Beguni, 1 alurchop, 1 veggie pakora, 2 dates, 100 grams of muri and a handful of boot, 1 Jilapi, 1 bottle of mineral water, 1 banana and a pc of tissue.
By 4 p.m. of the event day, all the iftaar items – previously ordered were collected from the shops and packaging materials were also ready. 11 people took part in the packing that included a kid of class-5 who performed his task superbly. Within 5.15 p.m., the team was out hitting the streets with 150 packets. We donated 15 packets to an under-privileged orphanage. The rest 135 were distributed in streets among the less privileged children.
By 6.30 p.m. the action was successfully completed. All the people who took part in this campaign were new to social-service but their performance was awesome. The beautiful smiles on the children’s faces motivated them greatly and left them willing to do more community service in the coming days.
I would like to end this note by thanking Almighty Allah. Only He knows how we successfully pulled off this event within such a short period of time! Thanks to those who donated and participated in this event in whatever way possible. Special thanks to Fazlay Rabbi (area leader-Dhanmondi-2) who encouraged us to do this project and helped us all throughout. This has indeed been an experience to remember.
