The Pursuit of Happiness– Action: Piyaju-Beguni 2011 (Day 16)

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

But I have promises to keep…

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

-Robert Frost

Being one of the area leaders of Moghbazar zone has been both a challenging and fulfilling experience for me. When I started working, I was worried about collecting and managing the fund and bringing all the Actioneers together and guiding them. People believe me to be more active than I actually am! And I knew I had a lot to live up to. The other area leader of this zone, Shegufta was excellent and working together, I was quite confident of arranging a successful event. We planned to distribute 500 iftaar packets which was not an easy task- mainly for the fund required to pull it off, as we were sure that there would be plenty of Actioneers willing to work.Although the fund collection part worried us a lot,we collected our targeted fund by the grace of Almighty well before the event day without any trouble. Uff….what a day that was!! But Alhamdulillah we have completed our work nicely.

20 August, 2011. Around 45 Actioneers gathered at my house by 2 p.m.  All the food items (piyaju, beguni, egg, bun, cake, banana, juice etc.) were already ordered and collected. Food was everywhere; and since everyone was fasting, the smell of the food, the looks of the food was tempting them. But it was a Ramadan day; no one could have any food. Haa!

The Actioneers were systematic and completed packing the food items into iftaar packets within an hour. Everyone was dedicated to their works and put their best efforts- there is no doubt about that! After that the Actioneers played a fun game of memorizing everyone’s name which is important to know when working in a team.

It was the time for distribution then which is the hardest part of the whole process. Walking and Distributing. The Actioneers were divided into three groups which covered separate routes. The groups finally met at the Siddeshwari Field and set off again to distribute the remaining packets. I was really happy to see that in spite of walking for so long during fasting, none of the Actioneers showed any sign of exhaustion. Moreover they were excited and had smiles on their faces. They are different from the other youngsters of their ages. They believe in making a difference; in bringing smiles to less privileged children – though only for one day. It matters to them. Instead of spending money and time with their friends, they went through hardship to spread a little happiness and joy around.

The Actioneers are our heroes, real heroes. The have at least come close to realizing the reality. Their searches for happiness in good deeds bear proofs to that. They are searching the reason to be in the world- maybe unknowingly! They are doing good deeds because they love to do so…. Yes! They are walking in the deep forest but they won’t stop until they reach their goals and see the light – the light which will dispel all the darkness around. It is a life long journey that they have embarked upon!It is a promise that they have made to themselves and to the country and to the world!
